CHOOSING AN IMPLANT-SUPPORTED RESTORATION
Implants have revolutionized the field of restorative dentistry.
These tiny posts are embedded in the jaw, where they provide many benefits for your dentures and smile
- All-day support that keeps your denture in place while you eat and speak
- Stimulation that helps prevent your jaw bone from resorbing into your body (a process that naturally occurs after tooth loss)
- Increased confidence in your appearance
- No need to apply messy adhesives each day
- Long-lasting support that remains even if your restoration must be replaced
INVESTING IN AN IMPLANT-SUPPORTED DENTURE
The type of implant-supported denture that is best for you will depend on your lifestyle and budget. Removable implant-supported dentures typically cost less than fixed dentures. Dr. John can design a brand-new denture for you or, in some cases, convert your existing traditional denture into an implant-supported restoration. This can help you save a great deal on the overall cost of your treatment.
If you are concerned about the cost of your dental implants or your denture, our team can help you explore several payment options. We accept all major forms of payment as well as CareCredit℠, Springstone℠, and iCare Financial®. These medical credit lines are easy to apply for, and they offer low- and fixed-interest rates.
THE TREATMENT PROCESS
Before your new or converted denture can be placed, you will need to undergo dental implant surgery. Dr. John will insert four or more strategically placed implants within your jaw bone. Over the next three to six months, your jaw bone will fuse with and secure your dental implants in a process known as osseointegration. Once your implants are fully secured within your jaw bone, Dr. John will place either abutments or a specialized appliance known as a Hader bar upon your implants. Your new denture may clip onto a Hader bar, devices made of titanium or chrome-cobalt, or snap directly in place upon abutments. Some patients may receive a combination of these two support systems. While you are waiting for your implants to heal, you will wear a temporary denture. Once healing is complete, your permanent, customized restoration will be attached.
CARING FOR YOUR DENTURE
Dr. John will teach you how to properly care for your removable denture. Each night, you will pop your denture off of its support bar and clean it using toothpaste and a toothbrush. You will also need to thoroughly clean your gums and your bar or abutments using toothpaste and mouthwash. At your biannual appointments, Dr. John will perform more thorough cleaning and ensure that your denture is in good repair.
